Um...

I don't know whether to be insulted or honoured. I don't know whether to give this a 10 or a 0, so I averaged it. I dunno... it's annoying.

Blasphem-E responds:

Trust me, honoured. It's shitty because that's how I do tribute songs.

Damn..

i didnt even realize this was a freestyle till ya mentioned it. I live by these lines: "yo, let me tell you even when im through with my songs/
my words will always live on/
even when im gone.../" I think this sounds great, Im not going to complain about sound quality at all, because this is real.
-1 cause your flow came off in the 3rd bar (maybe too many syllables were thrown in there). I almost want to give ya a 10 cause this was a freestyle, but I cant.
Gravy track man, keep at it.

Emdee-NF responds:

Thanks man, im glad you liked it and could relate, and yeah, i have to work on my flow, its been a problem since day 1 haha.

Dude can sing too!

I like the duet on this. Both the voices are well matched (there are two voices right? A dude and a chick?) I was skeptical that this would suck, but its actually really good. Nicely done.

Chista responds:

Thanks. It's the same track layered, an octave higher. I think there's 5 layers together. I'm gonna redo this one with a real girl singer

No!!!

Why'd you have to auto-tune the chorus! I would've given you a 10 if you would have done anything else, you could have recorded a a queef or a cat getting slaughtered by a vacuum and still got a 10. I like your verse content and lyricism, you're a decent emcee, keep it up.

Chista responds:

thanks, nd yea. i dunno I thought it sounded alright. It's fine if it's not used for real lyrics.

and LMFAO cat getting slaughtered by a vacuum. ahahaha

Needs a singer

The bad: The chorus singing is a bit rough. I do like the singing outro part though.
The Good: The verses are tight, I'm digging the flow on this. Clearly you could use a better mic or recording set up, but your tone and expression are captured well with what you got.
I did some lines on this beat awhile ago, so Im definitely feeling the Teddygram beat. I like hearing what other kats do with a beat, and I'm really digging what you did with this. Keep at it.

Chista responds:

Thanks alot man! I'm glad you call me on this stuff. I see it too, but it's nice to know. Slowly getting better everyday. Nd the new equipment is soon to come !! Thanks for reviewing all my posts

Hot

Gotta love the RZA beat. Im diggin ya flow; fast, steady and catchy. Great work.

MaxStayWitaStrap responds:

thanks bro appreciate that lol

Smooth and Different

Great job to both of you. I like the uniqueness of this track, it's a lot different from what I usually hear, CREATIVITY! I really like the effect on the hook. My paradise would have Asian girls playing Nintendo DS on swing sets and endangered animals walking around freely without being worried of being shot in the face.

LyRikLyNkLyNd responds:

My paradise is haveing a DS game with endangered animals playing with asian girls on swing sets >.<

Awe...

When I'm reviewing beats here's how I determine whether or not its worth reviewing: 1) if I bob my head with it 2)if I try to freestyle with it 3)if the artist leaves thoughful comments about his/her music 4) if an emotion or a mental image is instantly triggered by the beat ) if it's a friend.

Out of this criteria this track met 3 of my points, I tried a freestyle (as soon as the page loaded too, but to be fair I was looking for a song to freestyle at the moment...), the comments clearly got my attention (thanks man), and your a friend.

Now to the music review:

The good: The melodies are quite pleasant to the ear. You really have a knack for creating original chords and note progressions that sound complete. The drum beat is cohesive, it loops well. I'm a sucker for piano, so the chorus keys are rich, deep and add a nice texture to the chorus.

The bad: Though the beat loops nicely, I felt that the clap in the 3rd bar was followed too closely by the first clap in the 4th bar (0:14- 0:15). I'm not sure what Reason has for VSTs, but the sounds for these instruments was too computerized. Yah I know getting that real sound is difficult when you don't have an orchestra to record with, but having an authentic/natural/human sound will always dominate the virtual sound.

Personally I wouldn't normally jam to this kinda beat, its a little too "sappy/over emotional" for my liking. But I'm honoured you spent 2 and half hours on this.

As for a suggestion: I know FL Studios lets you change the pitch of the notes, maybe experimenting with the pitch, tone and key on the bass hit, hi-hat, snare, or clap might add some spice to the drums?

Keep at it man. I'll keep reviewing these beats till you get a 10.
I also wouldnt complain if you threw out a rap, Im just saying.

Oh! And can I have your permission to use this beat for a song?

Gasmasq responds:

I'm glad I met your criteria lol.

I see what you mean about the claps. That's just me doing the usual "too busy" thing lol. The sounds on Reason are HIGHLY editable, but it's a lot of work and I'm doing these tutorials right now to get used to it and trying to set up some presets so it's not so time consuming in the future. Slowly, but surely, I'm working on getting used to this whole 'no samples' thing after what happened to Yun.

I'll see what I can do as far as a rap coming soon. I've got some planned, but my main mics are at diff places and I don't really feel like recording with my laptop mic (though sometimes I guess it's necessary :/)

And yes, you have permission to use this beat, though you don't need it thanks to Creative Commons, but I also wouldn't be opposed to you making money with this if that's what you're asking. As far as I'm concerned, it's YOUR beat. But y'know, if it gets you rich, you could always kick down. :D

Stay up brothaman

Solid

I am keeping in mind that this is meant to be spit on. So I will not comment on the simpleness. With some lyrics this could be a headshot.

This sounds like it belongs on a Sega Genesis game (SNES has a way better music chip). The higher pitched synth was too old-school video game for me.

I like the drum line is heavy and drives solidly through the beat. The downward scale at the end of each bar is nicely executed.

Overall: I like the premise of the beat, but the Sega Synths deflate my boner, so you owe me some Viagra.

Blasphem-E responds:

Really man? Sega synths? And are you dissing my old school sounds? rofl. Glad you like the drums, but no viagra for you

Improvement

I think the biggest fault with this one is that the beat line doesnt fully respond with the melody at all times. At some parts the claps felt like they were misplaced. Actually I think the claps sound to obnoxious and bland.

The Goods: the slower tempo it a lot more hip hopity. The melodies and instrumental layers are excellent; the sounds sound like they belong together, they all have a relating theme and mood. I like the piano tune, I like how it changes up with the "organ horn?"<- very nice.

From listening to your two latest beats, I'd say you're tryng to do too much with the drums. I like the unorthodox beat pattern you're trying to pull off (by itself, it sounds great, but with accompaniement it sounds a bit off). I would try to start with a more simple beat pattern, one that drives all the over jazz (when I hear the beat move with your instruments, I think of a pre-pubescent boy dancing with his busting dance teacher, he's got the skills but he's too busy looking up to focus on his feet work) . The production time and effort is very evident in this, the addition of more layers adds a lot of dimension. This is a huge improvement from Sans, and in just one day? Wow. I don't mean to be such a picky douch on the beat, but that's what I heard as I listened to it.

I give the drum beat: 8/10
the accompaniement: 8.5/10
the chorus strings: 8/10
the cohesion of all the parts : 6/10
creativity/originality: 5/10 (this is compared to the elite though, so don't take it too badly)
effort: 10/10

I wish I could learn this art form at the rate your doing it, keep at it man. You'll get your 10 someday

Gasmasq responds:

Mickey, thank you. You're absolutely right. I've been thinking "maybe, after I get the melody established around the snares, perhaps I should switch up the drum line, cuz it's too busy", and you've just proved this point for me. I'll start working a new one right now, with that in mind, and tomorrow, check back, and see what I've come up with. I absolutely adore your reviews, because your insight is superb, and your attention to detail is excellent to say the least.

Stay hip hoppin' bruh,

Its what I do for fun.
